Abstract
This study is about the analysis of short stories by Howard Philips Lovecraft, the stories are “Dagon”, “Dunwich Horror”, and “The Call of Cthulhu”. Writer analyzes this work about the narrative structure by Tzevtan Todorov and the binary opposition by Claude Levi Strauss. After analyzing “Dagon”, “Dunwich Horror”, and “The Call of Cthulhu”, writer can conclude some pattern in H.P. Lovecraft’s work, at the narrative structure part H.P. Lovecraft gives more attention and tell a lot in the opening and the ending of the story where the character shrouded in fear, however in the raising action there is no detail about what makes the character scare and the reason. In every story always appears the binary opposition with the same theme, it is about knowledge. Where in some cases the character in the story will survive because of their knowledge and some of them cannot because they know too much or try to understand what happened. Keywords: narrative structure, binary opposition, fear, knowledge.
