Abstract

This research explores the experiences of Muslim immigrants confronting Islamophobia in the United States as depicted in Jasmine Warga's Other Words for Home. This study is analyzed through sociological approach of Alan Swingewood to uncover the relationship between social phenomenon of Islamophobia in the United States and its representation in literature. The findings shows that Islamophobia in the novel manifests through stereotypes, hate speech and discrimination, impacting to the social and psychological life of the main character, Jude. These experiences create a sense of alienation and an identity crisis. However, in responding to this situation, Jude shows resilience and resistance through social participation and pride with her Muslim identity. These findings confirm that the novel Other Words For Home reflects the social reality of Islamophobia in the United States and the struggles of Muslim immigrants to maintain their identity and dignity in the society that full of prejudiced.
