Abstract

This study discusses infidelity in the adaptation of The Idea of You to determine how changes create a new interpretation in the form of theme and message and garner positive reactions. This analysis is based on Linda Hutcheon's theory of adaptation as a creative process for filmmakers. Using a qualitative approach, this study focuses on three things: infidelity in adaptation, infidelity as creative negotiation, and audience responses. The research findings indicate that infidelity in adaptation does not undermine the essence of the original story but instead offers new perspectives for the audience. Additionally, some of the changes made represent filmmakers' reinterpretations to align with contemporary contexts and commercial objectives. Keywords: Adaptation, infidelity, The Idea of You
