Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of government spending on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the field of education in Indonesia, using the completion rate of senior secondary education (high school or equivalent) as the indicator. The method employed is panel data regression analysis across 33 provinces in Indonesia over the period 2016–2023. Government spending variables include expenditures on education, health, and social protection functions. The study also incorporates control variables such as per capita income and poverty. The results indicate that spending on health functions has a positive and significant effect on increasing the completion rate of senior secondary education, which serves as the indicator for SDGs in education in this study. This means that health function spending positively and significantly contributes to the achievement of educational SDGs. On the other hand, spending on education and social protection functions does not show a significant impact. Regarding control variables, per capita income has a positive and significant influence, while poverty has a negative and significant effect on the achievement of educational SDGs. These findings suggest that investment in the health sector, improving the economic well-being of the population, and reducing poverty are more effective in promoting the success and enhancement of senior secondary education completion, thereby accelerating the achievement of educational SDGs in Indonesia.
