Abstract
Description of Life Skill Among Senior High School Students in Padang Sari Diana Sora, Vivi Amalia, Septi Mayang Sarry Psychology Departement, Medical Faculty, Andalas University Abstract Adolescence is period of transition from childhood to adulthood. In this period, adolescence are suspectible to experience various problems as a consequence of the changes experienced, either biological, cognitive, and socioemotional. To reduce the risk of juvenile delinquency, adolescents must have sufficient skills in coping with their problems, one of which is life skill. Life skill is a set of skills, in addition to academic skills needed to live an effective life in all areas of life. This study aimed to describe the life skills on senior high school students in Padang. This study used a quantitative approach with descriptive method. The population in this study were students from all of the high school in Padang. The sampling technique used was proportionate stratified random sampling with a sample amounted to 393 people. The measuring tool used was a scale of Life-Skills Development Scale-Adolescent Form (LSDS-B) based on the theory by Gazda, Childers, and Brooks (1987) with the number of item 36 items and 0.87 on reliability. The results of this study shows that from 393 subjects, 254 (64.6%) have the life skills in high category, 138 (35.1%) have the life skill in medium category, and 1 (0.3% ) is in low category. These results indicate that the life skills possessed by high school students in Padang in general is good. Keywords: life skills, adolescene
