Abstract

Total diabetic patients worldwide is approximately 360 million people to date and poor diabetic management leads to various complications. One of ophthalmologic complications that can occur is diabetic retinopathy which 30% of the cases related to retinopathy diabetic leads to blindness. This study aims to know retinopathy diabetic incident among diabetic patients in Ophthalmology department of RSUP DR M. DJAMIL Padang during 2015 period. This study uses descriptive methods. We recruited diabetic patients that came to endocrinology department of RSUP DR M. Djamil Padang. These patients underwent eye screening in ophthalmology department. There were 190 patients that met inclusion criteria. The respondents were grouped into frequency distribution table. The result showed that diabetic retinopathy in diabetic patients in ophthalmology department was 38,5%. Male patients were more frequent. The vast majority of the patients was in 51 – 60 years old. Regarding the number of glycemia control, patients with poor glycemia control tend to be diabetic retinopathy compared to patients with good glycemia control. The poor glycemia patients have bigger chance to be Non Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR) and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) than the patients with good glycemia control.
