Abstract

These things leads to the increasing number of low birth weight from 1,74% to 2,2% in Padang 2015. The purpose of this study is to describe the correlation between the pre-pregnancy weight, every trimester weight gain and Body Mass Index pre-pregnancy with the birth weight and to determine the most influential factors that have a relation with the birth weight. Method This study used a retrospective cohort design. Samples were 153 pregnant women and infants who perform antenatal care and deliver in Community Health Center Padang 2015. The data were collected through cohort register and birth data. Correlation analysis and multiple linier regression were used to determined the strength and relationship direction between independent variables and birth weight. Result The result revealed the average of birth weight are 3.135,23 ± 356,271 grams (95% CI : 3.078,32 – 3.192,13 ). Maternal weight gain in first (p=0,005) and second semester (p=0,029) have a significant associationwith birth weight. There is no significantassociationbetween Pre pregnancy weight (p=0,051), maternal weight gain in third semester (p=0,893) and body mass index (p=0,107) with birth weight. The prediction model of birth weight = 2.605,383 + 7,348 (Pre pregnancy weight) + 0,035 (maternal weight gain in second semester). Conclusion There is a significant associationbetweenmaternal weight gain in first and second semester with birth weight. The most variable effect is second semester weight gain. It is expected that pregnant women more attention to of nutrition in the days before and during pregnancy becauseit is very significant impact on babies birth weight.
