Abstract
The study of women's language features and the function of language features used by the main character Enola in the Enola Holmes movie that airs on Netflix is discussed in this study. This study aims to find and analyze the language features of women and explain the function of language features used by Enola in her utterances. The data collection procedure used a non-participatory observation method with a note-taking technique. The theory used is the theory of women’s language features developed by Robin Lakoff and the theory of the function of language features proposed by Holmes. The results of the analysis found in Enola's speech in the film, it was found that Enola used eight types of language features, namely lexical hedges or fillers (14.63%), tag questions (34,15%), empty adjectives (19.51%), intensifiers (7.31%), hypercorrect grammar (2.43%), super polite form (12,19%), and empathic stress (9,75%). The results showed that the most frequently appearing language features were tag questions (34,15%). The use of Tag Questions in Enola's speech implies that she is weak, not confident, and reduces the strength of her speech. Whereas, two language feature functions were found from the use of language features in Enola's speech, namely the hedging function (60,96%) and the boosting function (39,00%). The language feature function that appears most often is hedging (60,96%). It can be concluded and assumed that Enola reduces the strength of the speech by using the tag question language feature and the hedging function in her speech so that she can express her weakness and lack of confidence in her utterances.
