Abstract
Description of Social Skills in First Year Students of the Psychology Study Program at Andalas University Adittheo Pratama1), Mafaza2), Liliyana Sari2), Diny Amenike2), Meria Susanti2) 1) Students of the Psychology Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University 2) Department of Psychology, Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University pratamaadittheo@gmail.com ABSTRACT Social skills in first year students will influence how they can interact and communicate in social environments. This research aims to provide an overview of the social skills of first year students of the Psychology study program who have entered university life for the first time. This research uses descriptive quantitative methods. The data collection method used a questionnaire with a sample size of 73 people. Data was collected from the sample using an adaptation of the social skills questionnaire (SSQ) measurement tool by Riggio (1998). The scale shows that the reliability of this measuring instrument is 0.903 so that this measuring instrument can be trusted and used for research. The research results showed that 91.8% of participants had high social skills and 8.2% had low social skills. These findings illustrate that the social skills possessed by first year students of the Psychology study program at Andalas University are at a high level, which means that the subjects of this research are largely able to interact and communicate socially well so they can adapt to the world of college.
