Abstract
This study aims to determine the transnational process of the Black Lives Matter movement in the United States which has succeeded in reaching various countries in fighting racism. The signing of the Civil Rights Act did not reduce the number of cases of racism in the United States. Evidenced by the existence of violence in the form of verbal and physical violence against black people in the United States. One of them was the death of George Floyd in 2020, which attracted the attention of the wider community and gave rise to large demonstrations in the United States and the hectic hashtag #BlackLivesMatter in cyberspace that attracted the attention of the world community. The research method used is qualitative with the type of research that is descriptive-analysis and utilizes secondary data. This study uses the concept of transnational social movements from Sidney Tarrow to describe the process of a domestic movement that can influence other countries to become a global movement. The results of this study are first, the domestic Black Lives Matter movement which was formed from collective action to frame the violence perpetrated by white police against black people. Second, this movement utilizes social media and takes direct action to attract the attention of the wider community. Third, the involvement of international actors in providing support because they have the same values in racism.
