Abstract
Cataracts are clouding of the eye lens where under normal circumstances the eye lens is usually clear. Senile cataract is a clouding of the eye lens that is found in people aged over 40 years. The causes of senile cataracts are multifactorial and not fully understood. This study aims to determine the frequency distribution of factors relating to senile cataracts in patients at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang period 2017-2018, one of which is gender, occupation, and diabetes mellitus. This research was retrospective descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. It used medical record data in senile cataract patients at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang period 2017-2018. Sampling is taken by total sampling method. Data analysis in this study used univariate analysis. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the incidence of senile cataracts was more common in patients with female sex (52.5%), indoor worker (88.1%), and no history of diabetes mellitus (84.7% ).
