Abstract

Students who are actively playing online games will spend more time on doing their hobby. However, students should use the available time to carry out their responsibilities as a student, such as studying and doing their homework. Therefore it needs a willingness and commitment to do that, it is called Task Commitment. Task Commitment involves the individual process to set their goals and directs their behavior in accordance to achieve those goals. The ability of individual to plan, direct, and monitor the behavior in order to achieve certain goals is the definition of Self Regulations. This study aimed to test whether there is a relationship between Self Regulations with the Task Commitment on students who are active as online game players in Andalas University. The method used was Quantitative Research Methods. The type of research was Correlational Research. The number of sample in this study was 100 students who are active as online game players in Andalas University. The data was collected with the scale of psychological research that is the adaptation scale of Self Regulations Questionnaire (SRQ) by Brown, Miller, and Lawendowski (1999), which consisted of 63 item (rix = 0.927) to measure Self Regulations. As for the measurements of Task Commitment, researcher used a scale of Task Commitment that modified from a scale developed by Winarti (2006), which consists of 44 item (rix = 0.947). Data analysis was done by analysis of the product moment correlation using SPSS developed by Pearson. On the results of research, it was r = 0.418, p = 0.000 (p <0.05). The results showed that there is a positive relationship between Self Regulations with the Task Commitment on students who is active as an online game player in Andalas University.
