Abstract

Person with disability is defined for those who possess limited mobility, hence difficulties in implementing daily activities. One of the most common types of disability is the motor disability. This aforementioned defect is caused by abnormalities within the bone structure. To date, motor-disabled persons use wheelchairs as their aids in movement. However, it still lacks in terms of control and convenience/comfort for its users. Therefore, the wheelchair control by using Leap Motion Controller sensor has been developed in order to provide position with the best convenience/comfort. This wheelchair control worked based on the pitch, yaw, and roll values of the user's wrists’ gesture. The designed control movement were namely “forward”, “backward”, “right”, “left”, and “stop”. The observation in terms of convenience/comfort were collected based on value of time of the user maintaining the respective position and through questionnaires filling, as well. The average time of respondent maintaining position was 10.50 minutes. Meanwhile, observation demonstrated that rate on applying route for wheel cranes was 91.11% of 5 respondents, with 3 times repetition. Research result indicated that utilization of control position in this study portrayed a more efficient, comfortable, and not rapidly causing fatigue. Other supporting outcomes were gathered from choices and critiques from the respondents who fulfilled the questionnaires. Keywords : Leap Motion, wrist position, leisure, wheelchair
