Abstract
This research discusses the struggle of a boy who has a facial abnormality named Auggie as the main character and how this boy fights to be accepted in his environment. This boy's story is told in the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio. This research uses the New Critism theory by Louis Tyson. This reearch uses a qualitative method and the results are presented using the descriptive method. I argue that Augggie the main character in this novel, describes a young boy who has an unusual attitude when facing problems compared to children his age. Auggie seems to be trying very hard to fight for himself to be accepted by his peers. Even though at first he tends to have two different personalities where if he is at home or in the game world he can be a humorous and masculine boy because no one can see his face and if at school when he interacts directly with his friends at first he becomes a very closed figure and tends to emerge from his environment. Through RJ Palacio's novel he not only describes suffering and rejection but also celebrates the resilience, resurrection, creativity and strength of a child with an abnormality in the face of extraordinary difficulties.
