Abstract

Bullying is a serious behavioral issue among adolescents that is prevalent in many countries, including Indonesia, which ranks fifth out of 78 countries with students experiencing bullying, whether as victims, perpetrators, or both. It is crucial to understand the factors associated with bullying behavior among adolescents. This study aims to analyze the factors related to bullying among adolescents. The research design is descriptive-analytical with a cross-sectional approach on junior high school students in Teluk Kuantan, Kuantan Singingi Regency. Data collection was done through questionnaires. Data processing was computerized with univariate analysis presented as frequency distribution and percentages, bivariate analysis using chi-square tests, and multivariate analysis using ordinal logistic regression. The study found that the bullying profile was categorized as non-bullying (59.1%), victims of bullying (22.4%), perpetrators of bullying (10.7%), and bully-victims (7.7%). There were significant associations between parenting styles, self-esteem, peer pressure, depression, and social media use with bullying, with p-values (<0.001). Multivariate analysis revealed that depression was the most dominant factor associated with bullying, with an Exp B value of 2.237 and a p-value (<0.001). It is necessary for schools to collaborate with various sectors such as local government and community health centers to educate adolescents, parents, and students about bullying to reduce its occurrence among teenagers.
