Abstract

Myopia is the condition of refractive anomaly where the focal point of the retinal conjugate is at a limited point in front of the eye when the eye is not accommodative and occurs due to the axial extension of the eyeball or the optical strength of the lens is too high. Myopia is a refractive disorder in the eye caused by several factors, one of which is a near work activity, such as reading which is large enough to influence the incidence of myopia, especially in school-age children. The purpose of this study was to analyze the long-standing relationship between the activity of reading and the degree of myopia in students of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Padang. This was an analytical study with a cross-sectional approach through purposive sampling technique. The study sample was 54 respondents. The degree of myopia was measured using a lensometer while the activity of reading was measured by a questionnaire. The data obtained were distributed statistically into the frequency and prevalence of each study variable. According to chi-square statistical test found that there was a statistically significant correlation of the data between the duration of reading activity and the degree of myopia obtained p-value = 0.016 (p <0.05). Based on the results showed 72.4% of respondents with a reading activity duration of ≥ 6 hours had moderate degrees of myopia and 27.6% of respondents with reading activity duration < 6 hours had a low degree of myopia. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between the duration of reading activity with the degree of myopia in students of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Padang. Keyword : myopia, near work activity, duration of reading activity  HUBUNGAN AKTIVITAS MEMBACA DENGAN DERAJAT MIOPIA PADA SISWA SMP NEGERI 1 KOTA PADANG Oleh Muhammad Halim Triwirani Syam ABSTRAK Miopia adalah keadaaan anomali refraktif mata di mana titik fokus konjugat retina berada pada titik terbatas di depan mata ketika mata tidak akomodatif dan terjadi karena perpanjangan aksial bola mata atau kekuatan optik lensa terlalu tinggi. Miopia merupakan kelainan refraksi pada mata yang disebabkan beberapa faktor, salah satunya adalah aktivitas dekat yaitu membaca yang cukup besar memberikan pengaruh terhadap kejadian miopia khususnya pada anak usia sekolah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis hubungan lama ativitas membaca dengan derajat miopia pada siswa SMP Negeri 1 Kota Padang. Penelitian ini merupakan studi analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional melalui teknik pengambilan sampel purposive sampling. Didapatkan sampel penelitian berjumlah 54 responden. Derajat miopia diukur dengan menggunakan lensometer sedangkan lama aktivitas membaca diukur dengan kuesioner. Data yang diperoleh didistribusikan secara statistik ke dalam frekuensi dan prevalensi masing-masing variabel penelitian. Uji statistik chi square dilakukan untuk menganalisis data dan melihat hubungan lama aktivitas membaca dengan derajat miopia diperoleh nilai p = 0,016 (p<0,05). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian hasil penelitian didapatkan 72,4% responden dengan lama aktivitas membaca ≥ 6 jam memiliki derajat miopia sedang dan 27,6% responden dengan lama aktivitas membaca < 6 jam memiliki derajat miopia rendah. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara lama aktivitas membaca dengan derajat miopia pada siswa SMP Negeri 1 Kota Padang.
