Abstract

This research aims to examine the relationship between peer attachment and emotional regulation in orphanage adolescents. Peer attachment is defined as adolescents' attachment to peers, and emotional regulation is an individual's ability to realize, understand emotions, and be able to find strategies to control emotional responses or impulsive behavior. The research method used is a quantitative method with correlation analysis Rank Spearman. The subjects of this study were 397 foster adolescents from 12 orphanages in Padang City who met certain criteria using cluster sampling technique. Data collection uses the adoption of measuring instruments Inventory Parents and Peer Attachment (IPPA) on peer attachment scale and adaptation of measuring instruments Difficulties Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) on the emotion regulation scale. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant relationship between peer attachment and emotion regulation in adolescents in orphanages. These findings indicate that the peer attachment of adolescents who are in orphanages has a relationship with their emotion regulation abilities.
