Abstract

This research discusses the politeness markers used in herbs advertisements on Rainbomushrooms account posts on Instagram. This study aims to analyze the use of types of politeness markers and factors that influence the choice of politeness markers used in advertising posts on the Rainbomushrooms account. The data sources in this study were obtained from 33 advertisement posts uploaded by Rainbomushrooms Instagram account from November 2022 to August 2023. In this study, the data were collected by using non-participant observation method and taking screenshots of each advertisement posts using a smartphone. Then, the data were analyzed using Brown and Levinson's (1987) politeness theory and pragmatic analysis method. The results are presented descriptively and using tables. The results show that there are 14 types of politeness markers used by rainbomushrooms accounts with imperative markers being the dominant type in rainbomushrooms account advertising posts. Factors that influence the choice of politeness markers on advertising posts on rainbomushrooms accounts consist of the payoffs (consideration for the benefits of minimizing face-threatening acts and not doing face-threatening acts) and sociological factors (social distance, relative power, and ranking of impositions).
