Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a very common form of inflammation of the joints and is one of the main long-term caused of pain in the world. Pain due to OA can be treated with non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) it has a side effect wich can cause dyspepsia. Dyspepsia is classified by its severity, wich is mild dyspepsia, moderate dyspepsia and severe dyspepsia. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the usage of NSAID and the severity of dyspepsia in osteoarthritis patients in the Kuranji Health Center working area, Padang City. This cross-sectional study used primary data by interviewing OA patients on NSAID therapy with questionnaires at Kuranji Health Center, Padang with a total of 101 respondents. The analysis test used chi square test. Univariate test results showed that OA patients were dominated by the age group >60 years (54.5%), female (79.2%), with the type of NSAID Diclofenac Sodium (84.2%), duration of NSAID used >3 months (56, 4%). Bivariate tests found a relationship between NSAID used and dyspepsia with a value of p=0.000, as well as a relationship between the duration of NSAID used and the severity of dyspepsia with a value of p=0.001. This study concluded that there was a relationship NSAID used and dyspepsia and there was a relationship between the duration of NSAID used and the severity of dyspepsia in OA patients on NSAID therapy at the Kuranji Community Health Center, Padang City.
