Abstract

In this research, the researcher examines linguistics signs found in Japanese Pocari Sweat advertisement. Those signs are verbal sign and nonverbal sign. This advertisement was analysed using the theory of Roland Barthes. Who had developed two system of sign called “denotative” and “conotative”. The object of this research is Pocari Sweat advertisement video which was taken from internet on January 15th 2016. There are three steps in doing this research, first researcher identificated data which is needed for this research. Then on the second step, researcher divided data into three parts by the scenes. Researcher was only as observer of the availavle data. At last researcher used semiotics theory by Roland Barthes (1957) to analyse data. The results show that there are so many meanings, ideas and messages from the poducers for customers. The meaning of this advertisement is the spirit of Japanese teenager in reaching their dreams. By using teenagers wearing uniform as the models, it interpreted young society of Japan as the purpose of those ideas and messages of the advertisement. Besides, by using girl teenagers as the main character of the advertisement strengthen marketability of advertisement.
