Abstract

Vertigo is often described by someone experiencing dizziness, feeling the environment or objects around them moving, floating and as if they are spinning, and headaches, which can even be accompanied by nausea and vomiting. This can cause the sufferer to lose balance. The global prevalence of dizziness, vertigo and imbalance is 5-10%, and reaches 40% in patients over 40 years of age. The problem of vertigo affects 20-30% of people in the productive age range, and 8-18% affects children, as many as 7-10% of adults report recurrent vertigo. In people with vertigo at a productive age, there is a risk that it can arise during activities and has a high risk of causing loss of balance, falls, fractures and several injuries that can harm the sufferer. In Indonesia itself, there is no epidemiological data regarding vertigo. At the Pauh puskesmas, 32 patients complained of vertigo in the last 3 months (July – September 2022). The instrument used to assess the level of vertigo is the Vertigo Symptom Scale Short Form (VSS-SF) instrument. When examining the level of vertigo with the VSS-SF questionnaire, a total score of 31 (moderate vertigo) was found. After carrying out routine Brandt Daroff exercises for 10 days, the total score of the VSS SF examination was 19 (suffering from mild vertigo). The success of the Daroff Brandt training program cannot be separated from the social support from the family which provides strength and creates an atmosphere of belonging to one another in the family members in meeting the developmental needs of the family.
