Abstract
CORRELATION BETWEEN DYSMENORRHEA AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN FEMALE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT OF SMA NEGERI 1 PADANG By C. Siti Hanifah ABSTRACT Dysmenorrhea occurs due to the release of prostaglandins. A majority of women have no complaints during mestruation, but several reported abdominal discomfort which is known as dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea will affect academic achievement. Several international reports found a high prevalence of dysmenorrhea in female teenagers up to 50%. Dysmenorrhea occurs in 50% reproductive-age women and 60-85% female teenagers. This study is an analytical study with a cross-sectional design. A total of 160 dysmenorrea respondents were recruited, consisting of 56 10th graders and 50 11th graders. Samples were obtained through proportional stratified random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires which were distributed in SMA Negeri 1 Padang and grades of subjects included in the National Examination according majors IPA/IPS. The collected data were analyzed using chi-square analysis. The results showed 60.4% of the respondents had a mild dysmenorrhea, 30.2% had a moderate dysmenorrhea and 9.4% had a severe dysmenorrhea. A total of 97.2% of the respondents had a good academic achievement while 2.8% had a poor academic achievement. The results of this study concluded that there are no significant correlation (p>0.05) between dysmenorrhea and academic achievement in female high school students of SMA Negeri 1 Padang.
