Abstract

This study examines consumer language attitudes towards the use of English in the name of beverages at Café & Resto in Padang City. This research refers to Garvin and Mathiot's (1968) language attitude theory. In the process of collecting data, this study used a qualitative method by conducting interviews with 15 loyal visitors of Clayton Café & Resto in Padang City. The results of this study indicate that all informants are loyal to Clayton Café & Resto and know the use of English in the name of the beverages, also understand the meaning of the name of the beverages. This study also shows that most of the informants show a positive attitude towards English in the name of beverages at Clayton Café & Resto in Padang City. This can be seen in their loyalty to English, pride in using English, and awareness of norms. Meanwhile, other informants showed a negative attitude towards English.
