Abstract
This research discusses multiculturalism in the USA as a medium of learning for readers to embrace and accept the diversity depicted in selected children's books. The selected books have multicultural themes in them. These books are I am whole, Paletero Man, Different Like Me, Mommy's Khimar, Lailah's Lunchbox, Our Favorite Day of the Year, Our Diversity Makes Us Stronger, and My Food, Your Food. This research promotes acceptance of multicultural society in selected children's picture books. This research also shows how authors and illustrators present the racial, religious, and traditional differences in selected children's picture books. The writer applies Sociological theory of Literature by Alan Swingewood and a multiculturalism approach to analyze this research. In this study, the writer's findings reveal that racial diversity in the USA is beginning to be accepted in USA society. In addition, multiculturalism in the USA shows readers the religious practice and traditions of the culture of the minority group. It can be seen by creating a children's picture book with a multicultural theme that raises the issue of racial diversity and acceptance of multiculturalism in the USA. Keywords: racial diversity, minority group, multiculturalism, American contemporary children's picture books.
