Abstract

ABSTRACT In this thesis, the writer discusses the types and their metaphorical themes in the stylistic device contained in the album a thousand suns by linkin park. The purpose of this research is to identify metaphorical types and themes as stylistic devices for linkin park in the lyrics of the album. The method used in this research is non-participant observation and note-taking technique. The data were analyzed using the theory of Lakoff and Johnson (2003) and the theory of Crystal and Davy (1969) to analyze the stylistic device. The results of this research are presented in a descriptive form and summarized in the table. The writer founds thirty-eight (38) metaphors and then chooses twelve (12) metaphorical data that represent all types of metaphors and themes that can be found within the album. Then the twelve (12) data were analyzed; the writer found all metaphor types that are proposed by Lakoff and Johnson (1987) they are structural metaphor, orientational metaphor, and ontological metaphor (entity and Substance metaphors, container metaphors, and personifications). The most types of metaphors found in this research are personification. At the least metaphor found is entity and substance ontological metaphor.The song with the most metaphors is waiting for the end, and the song with the least metaphor is fallout. The theme contained in the existing metaphor, it is about the nuclear bomb carried out by the U.S. which is in accordance with the theme of this album socio-political which occurred as a result of the nuclear bomb carried out by the U.S. Keyword: Metaphor, stylistic device, theme expressed, types of metaphor
