Abstract

The achievement of exclusive breastfeeding is still low from year to year in the working area of the Guguak Panjang Public Health Center, Bukittinggi City, although efforts have been made to overcome it. Mother’s perception is something that has a big enough influence on exclsive breastfeeding. The research method used is qualitative research with a phenomenologicalaroach with in-depth interviews, participant selection using purposive sampling and obtained the number of participants as many as 4 mothers breastfeeding babies aged 7 months in the working area of the Guguak Panjang Public Health Center, Bukittinggi City. Data were collected in the form of interview recordings obtained and assisted with interview guidelines and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results obtained fromresearch conducted from 25 May-27 June 2021, namely the mother’s perception of exclusive breastfeeding is positive, where mothers know the meaning of exclusive breastfeeding, the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, feelings of guilt when unable to provide exclusive breastfeedingand make efforts when breastfeeding a little comes out, but the mother’s milk is still felt a little. It is hoped that with this research, it can be used as input and advice for the public health center, namely by providing education to mothers on ways thatcan be done so that milk production can be a lot, so that mothers can maximize exclusive breastfeeding without any obstacles to breastfeeding shortages.
