Abstract

Every year there is an increase in risky sexual behavior in adolescents. Risky sexual behavior cannot be separated from the role of parents as communicators, but parents tend to have low levels of sexual communication with adolescents. Parents who have different characteristics experience barriers in sexual communication. This study aims to determine the description of parent-adolescent sexual communication in terms of the characteristics of parents in the Nagari Paninjauan Kecamatan X Koto, Kabupaten Tanah Datar 2021. This study was conducted from January - July 2021. The research method was descriptive with a survey approach. This study was conducted on 96 parents who have children aged 11-14 years who were taken by purposive sampling. The results of this study indicate that 71.9% of respondents have a low level of sexual communication, this is when viewed from the review of the characteristics of the respondents who have low communication in parents with age > 40 years (63.8%), basic education level (55.1% ), and respondents who work (53.6%). It is hoped that the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) collaborates with health services to provide health promotion interventions that discuss the importance of sexual communication between parents and adolescents, how to communicate sexually with adolescents, and the topic of sexual communication according to the stage of adolescence in an effort to improve sexual communication between parents and adolescents.
