Abstract

The most important factor in eye care is related to the cognitive and affective conditions of patients related to knowledge. Knowledge of respondents are not optimal resulted in incapacity, self-care doubts, resulting in non-compliance in treatment and care. This can be optimized by the health program through modern technology. This study aims to determine the extent to which audio-visual education increases the knowledge, attitudes, actions of post-phacoemulsification patients to perform independent care to restore optimal vision function in private hospitals specifically in the eyes of the city of Padang. The study was conducted at the Padang Eye Center Hospital in February - April 2020. The study design was quasi experimental pre-post test with control group. A sample of 70 people consisted of 35 respondents in the intervention group and 35 respondents in the control group with a purposive sampling technique. The instrument uses questionnaires, observation sheets, audio-visual videos. The results of the study with paired sample T Tests showed the effect of audio visual education on knowledge p value (0,000), attitude p value (0,000) action p value (0.042). Recommendations to hospital staff to make audio-visual education as a medium for health education in enhancing the knowledge, attitudes of postoperative phacoemulsification patients.
