Abstract

Quality of life, according to the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL), is defined as an individual's perception of life that includes the cultural system and values where the individual is located. These values are related to the objectives, hopes, standards, and concerns set by the individual. There are eight main components of fulfilling the quality of life, namely physical function, physical role, bodily pain, general health, energy, social function, emotional role, and mental health. Current public health obstacle is imbalance in quality of life components, which can cause disruption to the quality of life including in patients of functional dyspepsia. The objective of this study is to know the description of quality of life in patients of functional dyspepsia in RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang based on eight quality of life components according to WHOQOL criteria. This study is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. Sampling was done by consecutive sampling technique and a total sample of 50 respondents was obtained. Data was gathered with Short Form 36 (SF-36) questionnaire which has been validated by directly interviewing the patients. Results of univariate analysis showed quality of life based on physical function, physical role, feeling of pain, general health, and social function is low (SF-36 value Mean), while quality of life based on emotional role and mental health is in high quality of life category. Based on energy component, equal values of high and low quality of life was found. In general, the quality of life in patients of functional dyspepsia in RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang is low.
