Abstract

This study explores the diplomatic strategies implemented by Thailand to enhance its image as a halal tourism destination, particularly in relation to Indonesia, a country with a significant Muslim population. The study emphasizes the importance of regional cooperation, recognized by the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT), in promoting inclusive tourism that respects Islamic cultural values. The study discusses Thailand’s shift in branding from sex tourism to halal tourism, driven by the need to attract Muslim tourists and improve the country’s international image. The study also emphasizes that Thailand is developing facilities and services that cater to Muslim travelers, such as halal restaurants and places of worship, to facilitate their travel experience. In addition, the study suggests leveraging digital platforms and social media to support a wider audience, especially for countries with large Muslim populations such as the UAE, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Overall, the findings suggest that a strategic approach to halal tourism can contribute significantly to Thailand’s economic growth and strengthen its diplomatic ties with neighboring countries.
