Abstract
This research examines urban as the setting in one of Fitzgerald’s works entitled The Great Gatsby. This research focuses on the study of urban, which Fitzgerald uses as the setting for his novels. It also emphasizes the type of urban setting that exists in the story. Moreover, this research also looks at how well the settings work to convey the theme of the novel. In analyzing the novel, the author uses a formalist approach to analyze the intrinsic element of the novel, especially the setting as the main focus of this research. The author also applies qualitative methods and library research as research methods. As the result, the author found that the urban used by Fitzgerald in several types of setting included setting of place, time, and also the social setting which portrayed in The Urban Setting with the descriptions of the setting of place in New York and Long Island. New York as the main setting is massively influenced in delivering the theme of the story.
