Abstract

Stroke is a disorder of brain function due to blood flow to the brain so that the nutrients and oxygen that the brain needs are not fulfilled properly. Besides being able to cause physical problems, stroke can also cause psychological problems for sufferers such as anxiety. One of the non-pharmacological therapies that can be done to overcome anxiety in stroke patients is to apply Slow Stroke Back Massage (SSBM) therapy. The purpose of this scientific work is to provide anxiety nursing care to clients with stroke by applying SSBM therapy. The method used is a case study in an experimental form based on evidence based nursing which was carried out on 6 July 2023–15 July 2023 with the application of SSBM therapy carried out for 3 days. Respondents in this study were clients with stroke who experienced anxiety according to the research criteria. The independent variable in this scientific work is SSBM therapy and the dependent variable is anxiety. Anxiety scale measurement using the State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) questionnaire with pretest and posttest. Measurements were made before and after generalist intervention and SSBM therapy, data were processed manually using excel. The results of decreasing anxiety scores were obtained from before the intervention was carried out and after being given the implementation of generalist anxiety and SSBM measures. It is hoped that this scientific work can become information material in providing interventions to overcome anxiety in stroke patients by administering SSBM therapy so that it is hoped that it can be maximized in providing nursing services.
