Abstract
NURSING FACULTY ANDALAS UNIVERSITY April, 2018 Name : Shintya Sarizal Putri No. BP : 1311312017 Factors Affecting Compliance Nurses in the Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the Inpatient Department of Internal Medicine Hospital Dr. M. Djamil Padang in 2018 ABSTRACT Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a risk control aimed at protecting health workers from workplace accidents and occupational diseases. The use of PPE is a must for nurses when giving intervention to patients who are definitely at risk of disease. Compliance in the use of PPE can be influenced by attitudes, communication and supervision. This study aimed to determine the relationship between attitude, communication and supervision with the compliance of nurses in the use of personal protective equipment in the inpatient unit on internal medicine department of Dr. M. Djamil Padang. The type of this research was descriptive analytic with Cross Sectional Study design. Sample of this research were 72 nurses who executed by using purposive sampling method. The results showed that 54.2% had a positive attitude in the used of PPE, 84.7% had less effective communication in the use of PPE, 55.6% had less supervision in the use of PPE and 59.7% of non-compliant nurses in the used of PPE. The result of analysis by using chi-square test showed that there was no significant correlation between the factors with the compliance of nurses in the used of PPE, where the attitude with p-value compliance was 0.733, communication with p-value compliance 0.774, and supervision with p-value 0.132. Suggestions from this research are; it was necessary to improve the nurse's compliance about the importance of using PPE in accordance with the good and correct SOP by giving motivation in the form of reward to nurses who was adhere to the use of PPE, cultivate reported KTD without penalty and secret, evaluation monitoring, and improvement in application of PPE.
