Abstract
Magnetic materials NiFe2O4 were synthesized by hydothermal and calcination method using hibiscus rosa-sinensis extract. Magnetic materials had been synthesized by hydrothermal method using extract (NiE 30) and by adding NaOH followed by calcination (NiENK) were characterized by X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM), Diffuse Reflactance Spectroscopy UV-Visible (DRS UV-Vis), and Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR). The materials were applied as photocatalysts to degradate direct yellow 27 and batik waste dye under solar light irradiation. The NiFe2O4 peak on the formed NiE were not perfect yet, while NiEN and NiENK have a perfect peak with good crystallinity indicated by the XRD pattern. The NIENK particles formed were spherical, while the small-shaped NiEN was rod and it was largely agglomerated as shown by the TEM image. Magnetic properties were shown by VSM that NiE 30 and NiEN were superparamagnetic, while NiENK was ferromagnetic. Band gap of magnetic materials NiE 30, NiEN and NiENK were 1,84 eV, 1,88 and 1,68 eV. FTIR spectra were shown the vibration of Fe-O and Ni-O in the range 300-600 cm-1. The best photocatalytic activities were shown by magnetic material NiEN by 90,52% and 84,01% to degradate direct yellow 27 and batik waste.
