Abstract

This research intended to examine the language style used in four linguistic stylistic features of Ardhito Pramono's A Letter To My 17 Year Old album song lyrics. In order to achieve this, this research employed a linguistic stylistics approach, focusing on the syntactical, lexico-semantic, phonological, and graphological levels. This research employed qualitative method. The data were in the forms of words, phrases, and sentences taken from the song lyrics of Ardhito Pramono‘s in the album entitled A Letter To My 17 Year Old. After collecting the data, the researcher deployed Chomsky‘s theory to classify the syntactical level, Keraf‘s theory to classify the lexico-semantics level, Khan and Jabeen‘s theory to classify the phonological level, and Yeibo and Akerele‘s theory to classify the graphological level. The main instrument of this research was the data sheet from the transcript of the lyrics. The findings showed that there are four aspects of language style found in A Letter To My 17 Year Old album. The aspects were syntactical level, lexico-semantics level, phonological level, and graphological level. On the other hand, graphological aspect had the least data. The dominant language styles of this album were using noun phrase and deviation which has dominant lyrics without subject, repetition, and dominant assonance in phonological level. The research showed that the purpose of the dominant language style in this album was to predipose the listeners of the songs to remember the song and make the songs easy singing, easy listening, and match the tempo of the songs.
