Abstract

Lack of standard practice of insulin injections in patients with Diabetes Mellitus results in inadequate glycemic control. The key factor that causes these errors is a lack of knowledge and skills in insulin pen injection. This research aims to improve the insulin pen injection practice of type II diabetes mellitus patients by providing effective education through audio-visual (video) means. The research method used is a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The research population consists of all type II diabetes patients receiving insulin pen therapy at the Internal Medicine Clinic of Dr. M. Djamil Padang Hospital from February to March 2023, with a sample of 34 people selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments used were a questionnaire and an observation sheet. Data was collected and processed using SPSS and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results of the study showed that there was an influence of video-based education on the knowledge (p=0.000) and skills (p=0.000) of insulin pen injection in type II diabetes mellitus patients. Video-based education on insulin pen injection was able to change the health behavior related to the knowledge and skills of type II diabetes mellitus patients in insulin pen injection.
