Abstract

DIFFERENCES IN ACADEMIC STRESS LEVEL BETWEEN EXCELLENT CLASS STUDENTS AND REGULAR CLASS STUDENTS OF SMP 8 PADANG by Hafizah Latif ABSTRACT The academicstress is the stress that comes from academic field. It is perceived negatively by students and giving an impact on health physically, mentally, and learning performance as well. Academic field is the major source of stress among students (66.7%) in comparison with other causes. This research aims to see the difference in academic stress level between excellent class students and regular class students of SMP 8 Padang. This research uses cross sectional design with descriptive analysis.This research was conducted on April-October2016 at SMP 8 Padang. The sample of research is all population i.e 8 class students of SMP 8 Padang who are 214 students and consist of 56 students from excellent class and 158 students from regular class. The data was analyzed by using univariat analysis and bivariat analysis with independent t-test. The data collection was by distribute the questioner. The univariat analysis result showed that the distribution of academic stress of excellent class are 44.7% student have low stress level, 51.8% student have mild stress level and 3.6% student have high stress level. Meanwhile academic stress distribution of regular class are 22.8% student have low stress level, 55.7% student have mild stress level and 21.5% student have high stress level. The result of bivariat analysis showed that there were significant difference (p=0.000) between the academic stress level of excellent class students and regular class students. The conclusion of this study is high academic stress level is higher among regular class students, meanwhile low academic stress level is higher among excellent class students.
