Abstract

Sahabat Ilmu Jambi is an independent community engaged in volunteering, youth, creativity, social, education, especially increasing interest in reading and literacy as well as writing and knowledge among disadvantaged children. This study aims to determine the role of communication networks in social movements for educational assistance for the poor. This study uses the communication network theory put forward by Peter R Monge and Noshir S. Contractor, explaining how to see the organizational structure and the role played by Sahabat Ilmu Jambi in running the program. This study uses qualitative research methods to understand what phenomena are experienced. The paradigm used in this research is the constructivism paradigm. Data collection was done by interview, observation and documentation. The data that has been collected was analyzed using qualitative descriptive data analysis of the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data presentation, while the validity of the data was carried out using source triangulation. Based on the research that has been carried out, the result of this study are the communication network pattern of the Sahabat Ilmu Jambi community forming five cliques that describe the interactions carried out by members, the first clique is formed by interactions between the Daily Management Board consisting of the Chair, Secretary, treasurer and Chairperson of each division. The second clique was formed by the Preneur Social Division, the third clique was formed by the Taman Baca Division, the fourth clique was formed by the Public Relations Division, and the fifth clique was formed by the Mentoring Division. and the communication network used by the Sahabat Ilmu Jambi community in the form of a network pattern of all channels or stars and a wheel network pattern. the pattern of all channels or stars can be seen from the communication that occurs without requiring an intermediary to convey the message. Communication that exists in the community is open. The Wheel Network pattern can be seen from the existence of a clear leader in presenting instructions related to work programs, orders, and having the authority to determine all existing decisions.
