Abstract
Lantana camara Linn also known as tahi ayam is a family of Verbenaceae that grows in tropical and subtropical areas and spread in 50 countries in the world. This plant is often used as traditional medicine to treat various diseases. This plant contains essential oils with different compositions based on different places where it grows. Essential oil fro the plant Lantana camara Linn has been reported to have different contents in different regions. The purpose of this study was to isolate and determine the chemical content of the essential oil of Lantana camara Linn leaves obtained from Kampar Regency and to find out how its cytotoxic activity. Isolation was carried out by hydrodistillation method and chemical content analysist using Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The yield obtained in the isolation of Lantana camara Linn leaves essential oil was 0,079% (w/w) with specific grafity of 0,9081 g/mL. The results of the analysis of the essential oil content of Lantana camara Linn leaves contained 62 compound components with 5 groups of compounds (hydrocarbone monoterpene, hydrocarbone sesquiterpene, oxygenated monoterpene, oxygenated sesquiterpene and other compounds) with the main compound is caryophyllene (14,53%), germacrene B (9,54%), -elemene (4,11%), - amorphene (4,07%), humulene (3,71%).. The result of the cytotoxic activity against essential oil isolated by the method of Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method showed that essential oil of Lantana camara Linn leaves was very toxic with an LC50 value of 51,55 μg/mL. Keyword : Lantana camara Linn, essential oil, cytotoxic
