Abstract

This research is a transitivity analysis of Prime Minister Jacinda Andern war on terror speech. This research used qualitative approach. The author applied the transitivity theory proposed by Hallyday. The result of this research is there are 85 processes found in the Prime Minister Jacinda Andern war on terror speech. They are the material process (42.35%), the mental process (12.94%), the behavioral process (1.18%), the relational process (28.23%), the verbal process (10.59), and the existential process (4.71%). Just like the process type, the dominant participant found is actor which is the participant of the material process. Actor accounts for 24.49% of the participants in the speech. For the circumstantial element location which consists of place and time is the most dominant circumstantial element. Location accounts for 55.55% of the circumstantial elements in the speech. In this research, the material process which is the dominant process is divided into two types. The first type is the reportage of the terrorist act in Christchurch and the second type is the Prime Minister Jacinda Andern’s respond and emotion toward terrorism. In this case, the choice of word of Prime Minister Jacinda Andern in verbal process describes her rejection and cursed toward terrorism.
