Abstract

ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Early marriage is a marriage that is carried out under the productive age, namely <21 years for women. There are many factors that cause early marriage in adolescent girls, namely individual factors, family, the role of parents and the community environment. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the role of parents and the incidence of marriage at young women in Lubuk Gadang, Sangir District, South Solok Regency. Method This research is a quantitative study with a cross sectional design, conducted in Lubuk Gadang, Sangir District, South Solok Regency from February to May 2021. The sample in this study used the Slovin formula, as many as 61 respondents who were taken randomly using the simple random sampling method. Data were analyzed by univariate and bivariate using Chi Square analysis. Result The results showed that the percentage of the incidence of early marriage was more common in parents who played a less role (57.4%), compared to parents who played a role (42.6%) with a p-value of 0.0003 (p <0.05). and the OR value obtained was 7,733 (95% CI = 2,372-25,216). Conclusion There is a relationship between the role of parents and the incidence of early marriage in adolescent girls in Lubuk Gadang, Sangir District, South Solok Regency. Parents are expected to give a good role to their children, especially as the person in charge, that is, to be brave in every decision made by the child, such as determining the age of marriage.
