Abstract

Along with globalization, the development of technology, and the highly competitive in the business environment, corporate mergers and acquisitions have become popular. The popularity of mergers and acquisitions are also experienced by the company conducted in the finance sector. This is evidenced by the number of large national and international finance companies around the world involved in mergers and acquisitions. This research are intended to determine whether there are significant differences in the level of financial performance of companies in the finance sector at pre and post mergers and acquisitions and also to determine the difference in financial performance before and after the occurrence of mergers and acquisitions. The sample used in this research consists of 3 companies for mergers and 2 companies for acquisition. They are listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange and have undertaken merger and acquisition in period of 2008-2011. The expected results are analyzed by using financial ratio, that concluded mostly during and one year after the process of mergers or acquisitions the company did not able to maintain or make the improvement of their financial performance. This is shown by the decreased of the company’s net profit due to merger expenses.
