Abstract

Different community has different cultural terms to describe about something which is related to cultural specific such as orang utan, batik, rendang and ojek in Ind onesia. They can be found in novels like in The Road (Cormac McCarthy, 2006). In T he Road novel, the author used post apocalyptic genre. The Road novel tells about po st-apocalyptic in the world but the author takes a place in United States. Here, the aut hor tells about the smashed civilization of life set after the great disaster. It is translate d into Indonesian by Sonya Sondakh. In this translated version, she translates the cult ural words of the original novel in different ways. The writer interests to analysis the t echnique in translating the cultural words found in The Road novel because the autho r was described about post apocalyptic moment. In this research, the writer focuses o n the categories of the cultural words found in The Road novel and the techniques in t ranslating them from English to Indonesian.
