Abstract

Period pain (dysmenorrhea) is reported as a general gynecological complaint and often cause the absence of teenagers or women at their work, school or other activities. One of the way to prevent dysmenorrhea is by doing physical activity. The type of research which is used is analytic study with approaching cross sectional study. The population is all pre-clinic college students course of Medical Education Medical Faculty of Andalas University Year 2012-2013. The total sample of 96 sample which is picked by Systematic Random Sampling. The data which is used in this research consist of primary data (questionnaire about the habits of physical activity and dysmenorrhea) and secondary data (the pre-clinic students data). The data is pute into SPSS program, shown in frequency table, and analyzed with Chi-Square test at p-value <0.05 to know the relationship between physical activity and dysmenorrhea. In this research shown that 82.3% of respondents suffered from dysmenorrhea. Most of them suffer mild dysmenorrhea (42.7%). In this research also shown that most of respondents did not physical activity (42.7%). The results of statistic test using Chi-square values obtained p value = 0.117 (p > 0,05). Based on the result, it can conclude that there is no significant relationship between physical activity and dysmenorrhea in pre-clinic college students course of medical education medical faculty of andalas university year 2012-2013. Based on this research also conclude that there is a significant relationship between type of sport and dysmenorrhea in pre-clinic college students course of medical education medical faculty of andalas university year 2012-2013. It is suggested for further researchers to conduct further research design like comparative or case control. Research by considering the other factors that affect dysmenorrheal other that the habits of doing physical activity.
