Abstract

Objectives: The Diffuse Axonal Injury is a type of severe head injury. In the case of the entire head injury, it is ensured that 60% of severe head injuries and 40% of head injury cases were associated with the DAI. DAI case is found in secondary brain injury which is the occurrence of an ischemic brain. The role of magnesium sulfate here is as a deciphering agent in cases of severe head injury and brain ischemic. Method: This research uses cohort study prospective with therapeutic treatment for 3 months from October to December 2019, against severe head injury patients who have come to the treatment of IGD RSUP DR. M. Djamil. Results: Obtained group with therapy MgSO4 more effective to improve the level of awareness of the patient's head injury weight, but there is no significant difference between the two types of therapy. In terms of the number of patients as much in both test groups are included in accordance with the analysis of T-Test independent sample on the SPSS count. Conclusion: In this study obtained the results of MgSO4 therapy more effective than conventional therapy, but there is no significant difference to the amount of therapeutic success (Sig > 0.05). Age and time of incident became a factor of consideration of researchers to assess the performance of MgSO4 therapy in Diffuse Axonal Injury patients in a semi-intensive part of the surgical section of RSUP M Djamil Padang.
