Abstract
Increased activity in the palm oil industry has resulted in greater production of liquid waste. Palm oil liquid waste has a great potential to damage the environment, because it has a high amount of organic and inorganic content. Therefore, the treatment of the liquid waste is carried out before being discharged into the environment. One alternative treatment is the applied plasma DBD method. Processing with the applied plasma DBD method will produce carbon dioxide gas. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the gases that cause the greenhouse effect if released into the free air, but at certain concentrations, carbon dioxide gas can be utilized for other purposes, such as the cultivation of Spriluna Plantesis and the manufacture of diethyl carbonate. However, the concentration of carbon dioxide gas that can be produced by the applied plasma DBD method is not yet known. This study aims to design a monitoring system of carbon dioxide gas concentrations produced from palm oil wastewater treatment using DHF plasma method. The concentration of carbon dioxide gas is determined by the output voltage of the gas sensor used. Monitoring system testing is carried out for 1 hour by applying the variation of DBD voltage of 15kV, 20kV, and 25kV to 800mL of liquid waste. The results showed that the concentration of carbon dioxide gas would be faster and more formed with a greater variation of DBD voltage. Where at 25kV, the concentration of carbon dioxide gas reaches 8406ppm.
