Abstract

The writer in this analysis uses postcolonial theory to analyze this issue deeply. Ashcroft, Griffiths and Tiffin explain postcolonial “We use the term ‘postcolonial’, however, to cover all the culture affected by the imperial process from the moment of colonization to the present day. This is because there is a continuity of preoccupations throughout the historical process initiated by European imperial aggression” (Ashcroft et al, 2002: 2). The quotation above explains that the first appearance of postcolonial is initiated by the aggression of European empire. In the history of Australia, English men were the ancestors and the first European living in the continent. They occupied the land and native people. In order to show mimicry which destroy and abolish the identity of the Aboriginal people in Australia, and also cause the inequality for the recent Aboriginal people, the writer is interested in analyzing five poems written by an Aboriginal author, Ali Cobby Eckermann by using Postcolonial theory, concerning especially the issue of mimicry. These five poems are chosen because; in these poems include all of the phase of Eckermann’s life. Therefore, this research entitled Mimicry as a Device to Destroy Aboriginal Identity in Ali Cobby Eckermann’s Five Selected Poems.
