Abstract

This research describes the process of securitization of refugee issues carried out by the Australian government. During the country's development, the government carried out massive reception of refugees. But after 9/11 the Australian government began securitizing refugees. This securitization raises many pro and cons of Australian society it self. This research explains the securitization process using the Jef Huysman concept where according to Huysman there are three processes or stages in securitization; distributing fear and trust, managing exclusion and inclusion and prejudice against violence. This research uses a qualitative research method with the descriptive research that uses secondary data. The results of this study are the Australian government distributes fear using physical threat by using “terrorist” words, issues a series of policies such as : pacific solution I,II, detention, offshore processing centre and immicard in order to separate identities from the ultimate goal to equalize the views relating to the government, the Australian government has the support of its people to issue policies that use military capabilities with Operation Sovereign Borders (OSB).
