Abstract

Peck Drilling Cycles is commonly utilized to reduce the thrust forces when drilling the large holes. Meanwhile, thrust forces play significant roles in formation of Delamination due to low interlaminar strength in composite materials. Therefore, this present study aims to compare between effect of this stepped drilling method and the conventional drilling method in reducing the magnitude of Delamination ratios. A pineapple leave fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite was mechacnical drilled by utilizing Completely Randomized Design and Orthogonal Array Design Taguchi. Results indicated that stepped drilling method could open the potential windows of the method as alternative in minimalizing the hole failure due to Delamination. Although, the contribution of this method in a mechanical drilling systems fails to be apparent.
