Abstract
Hendra Saputra. Exploration of Agarwood Oleoresin Extraction from Former Coal Mining Sites Using a Life Cycle Costing Approach. Supervised by Benni Satria, Novizar Nazir, and Tuty Anggraini This study aims to identify the dominant compound profile of agarwood from ex-mining and non-mining areas, explore the agarwood oleoresin extraction method using microwave-assisted maceration, ultrasonic, and a combination of both, study the Life Cycle Costing (LCC) of agarwood oleoresin extraction with a cradle-to-gate approach, and analyze the added value and profits based on the Hayami method. This study was conducted from February 2024 to August 2025. The results of the identification of the agarwood oleoresin compound profile from ex-mining sites showed that it was dominated by Pentadecanoic acid compounds, while the amount of sesquiterpenes which are the main content of agarwood oleoresin was still relatively small, namely 1.80% derived from the 9,10-Dihydrodeoxynivalenol compound, and chromone compounds were not found from the results of room temperature maceration. Then when compared with non-mining oleoresin compounds, it shows a high amount of sesquiterpenes, namely 37.89% with the dominant compound being 1,2-Longidione which is a sesquiterpene compound, then chromone compounds were also not found in non-mining oleoresin which is a marker compound of agarwood. The results of extraction with methanol solvent at room temperature maceration produced a yield of 0.094%, the microwave-assisted maceration method produced a yield of 0.096%, the ultrasonic method gave a yield of 0.093%, a significant increase was obtained in the combination method of microwave and ultrasonic, with a yield reaching 0.148%. Ultrasonic assisted maceration can increase the amount of sesquiterpenes in agarwood oleoresin from ex-mining land by 39.12% with chromone compounds of 5.32%, then microwave assisted maceration can also increase sesquiterpene compounds by 40.69% and chromones by 4.87%, then the combination of ultrasonic and microwave maceration is the most effective method because it gets the highest sesquiterpene compounds of 48.43% and chromone compounds of 8.44%. The results of the Life Cycle Costing calculation show that the combination of microwave and ultrasonic methods provides the highest extraction costs incurred in a single extraction process, namely Rp. 77,043 with extraction results (0.7435 g) and profit of 21 million rupiah / kg of sapwood, when compared with other methods with lower total costs, the combined maceration method is still the most profitable method for a single extraction process.
